Ultra Races are expensive, it is better have a budget in place, to be better prepared. One can by making a rough estimate and update it as you have a final race plan in place. The plan should include how many crew and vehicles you required and how you plan to feed and accommodate them pre, during and post race.
Rutvik Khare, who has officiated multiple times at Deccan Cliffhanger and at the 1st edition of Ultra Spice, has also crewed for Srinivas Gokulnath at Race Across America for his successful RAAM Finish in 2017 and been Srini’s crew at 2nd edition of the Ultra Spice Race. He has prepared a document detailing things to keep in mind while creating an ultra race Budget. There will be a lot of variation within this, especially if racers are attempting a one day race within India itself, if you have to hire a vehicle or have your own, then fuel efficiency, race plan etc. The Percentages in the graph below vary tremendously, specially registration fees which would be typically 10-20% of the budget at DC for example. Additionally Race Director Divya Tate, who has Crewed at a total of 8 International Ultra Races including Race Across America, Race Across the West, Race Across Europe and Race Around Austria has created a Budget tool that may be downloaded and used to fill in your own details, with estimates of expenses and finally actual costs. While projecting, it is a good idea to use the minimum and the maximum to get an idea of the range of your budget.
